This year I will be participating in Extra Life, which is a 24-hour gaming marathon that raises money for the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.
Harebrained Schemes’ Shadowrun video game series brings the tabletop RPG into video game form, applying the same lore and world-building concepts and allowing a single player to experience them in a different way.
Originally, I was only going to have one post on Dex, but I felt so strongly about some of the endings and how the themes came together at the end of the game that I realized I was going to have to make a whole separate post over it.
A thought occurred to me while I was working on my third playthrough of Dragon Age: Origins: how player choice can present itself differently across different games.
Ultimately, Pyre’s story centers around the question: what does freedom mean to each character? And in a story that focuses heavily on different definitions of freedom, there is a surprising amount of emphasis placed on the player’s decision or rather, judgement.
There aren’t any action sequences, no dialogue, not even a character name to go by. And yet, in an hour and a half, it tells a story that is meaningful in its simplicity.
Adventures at SDCC 2017!
Revisiting the series, I discovered several things: Final Fantasy III has a great story and it could simultaneously greatly benefit from a modern day remake.
